"SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE OFFICIAL SOUVENIR & PROGRAMME" - The Mayor of North Sydney's commemorative, multi-signed book. Full black leather, scuffed edges and spine; gold blocked titles and drawing of the completed bridge, with "Opening Date 19th March 1932 / The Mayor of North Sydney/Alderman H.L. Primrose" embossed in gold. Alderman Primrose cut the ribbon on the north side of the Bridge (photograph page 9 of The Bridge Opened). With deckled endpapers, incorporating Programme of official opening and Celebrations March 19 - April 1 1932 (4pp); The Sydney Harbour Bridge Official Souvenir and Programme (Alfred James Kent, I.S.O, Government Printer 1932 (180pp); and The Bridge Opened: Illustrated Supplement to Official Souvenir, March 1932 (34pp). This copy signed to the f.l.f.l., Gwendoline Game, further signed on page 7 near their photographs, by the key participants in the Opening; John T. Lang (Premier), Philip Game (Governor of NSW); MA Davidson (Minister for Works, NSW); JM Baddely (Minister for Mines and Minister for Labour and Industry, NSW); J McGirr (Minister for Local Government); W McKell (Minister for Justice); J Lamaro (Attorney General, NSW) and W Davies (Minister for Education). To page 16, The Hon RT Ball has signed next to his photograph setting the foundation stone to the bridge in 1925. To page 32, The Hon Roland Kitson (Deputy Chairman, Dorman, Long & Co, and Director of the Bank of England) has signed near his photograph. On page 33, Lawrence Ennis (Director of Dorman, Long & Co, and Director of Construction, Sydney Harbour Bridge) has signed near his photograph. On page 50, Mr D. Clyne, MLA for King (The City of Sydney) has signed near his photograph. On page 172-3, three members of the Sydney Harbour Bridge Celebrations Organising Committee have signed: H Budge (Secretary to the Governor), C Chapmam (Under-Secretary, Treasury NSW) and Dr JC Bradfield (Chief Engineer, Sydney Harbour Bridge); near their photographs. Tear at bottom p66, not affecting text., Page 111 is partly torn, affecting text. Addendum correcting caption on p14 of THE BRIDGE opened is extant. A remarkable piece of Australiana.

THE OPENING OF THE SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE: Charles Kingsford Smith, Australia's most famous aviator flew a party of politicians, engineers and officials over the Bridge on Opening Day. A Samuel Wood real photo PC of the Bridge (Titled: NORTH SHORE BRIDGE, SYDNEY, N.S.W.") with typed "Carried by Aeroplane/Southern Cross" and signed by the pilot "C Kingsford Smith" and others including "John J.C. Bradfield" (the bridge's designer), "Philip Game" (the Governor), "John T Lang" (the Premier), "Sam Walder" (the Lord Mayor) & "M A Davidson" (Minister for Works), "R.T. Ball" (who had set the Foundation Stone in 1925) and 2 other MLAs, with a gold/deep blue commemorative foil label and 2d & 2d Bridge stamps tied by "SYDNEY HARBOUR BRIDGE S.E.PYLON" datestamp and with NEWTOWN delivery cds. The card is further enhanced by the presence of a "S.E. PYLON" Registration label. Extremely scarce thus. Only 15 cards were carried - See "The Australasian Airmail Catalogue #256. The most recent example to be offered at public auction, from the Maurice Williams collection, brought $8,250 + commission in May 2008. Neither this example, nor the example sold by us from the Nelson Eustis collection (Feb.2008) were Registered.

[While serving with the Bushveldt Carbineers during the Boer War, Witton was accused of murder alongside Morant, Handcock, Lenehan and Picton - and was found guilty alongside Morant and Handcock. Sentenced to death by firing squad, only Witton was reprieved].
