TOMMY BURNS AUSTRALIAN BOXING AND MOVIE ARCHIVE: Born Geoffrey Mostyn Murphy, N.S.W. May 19th 1922, Tommy Burns became the Australian Welterweight Champion in 1948. An Amazing and colourful career both in boxing and motion pictures was due to his talent and remarkable good looks. This archive is a fascinting account of his life through photographs, articles and a handwritten account of his travels to meet the boxing world of the United States. This is the first time this material has been seen by the public. It has been in private hands for over 50 years. THE TOMMY BURNS PERSONAL DIARY: A. A handwritten account of a trip across the United States, with a round by round account of a fight between Rocky Graziano and Charlie Fusari, interviews and observations of the greats of the day, Sandy Sadler, Willie Pep, Joe Lewis and many others. A side of boxing not often seen. Also Burn's personal observations of the fight game as it existed. Insights into the darker side of the fight game. BOXING PHOTOGRAPHS: A. A very rare photograph of Catherine Thomas, Australian Women's Bantamweight Champion 1949, signed on reverse and endorsed to Tommy Burns. In a time when it was almost unheard of to be a woman boxer, Catherine Thomas won the title in Jan 1949. Little is known of the women in boxing and as a result this picture is very collectible. B. An assortment of over 60 photographs of the Tommy Burns years, including a photograph of Burns v Mickey Tollis in a 1948 Australian Title Defence (Burns won on points); a photograph of Burns with "Dally" Messenger (thought by many to be the greatest rugby player of all time) and Alby Graham; plus other photographs from Burns' private collection. MOTION PICTURE PHOTOGRAPHS: A. Photographs of the cast of the movie "SONS OF MATTHEW" (1949), which included Tommy Burns as an actor, including a signed photograph of the legendary film director Charles Chauvel (1897-1959), plus 12 still photographs of Tommy Burns and the entire cast of the movie, what appears to be a part of script for the movie and The Photoplayer, a special souvenir magazine edition for the "Sons Of Mathew". BALANCE OF BURNS ARCHIVE: A. Photograph of Slazengers purse (1948), awarded by one of the largest sports manufacturers of the time. B. Pencil Sketch of Tonny Burns c1940 by P. Eagles. Fine quality.
