EARLY AUSTRALIAN CRICKET BAT: Full size "Cobbett" Cricket Bat, with silver plaque attached to top of handle, engraved "Presented to Mr.S.Hopkinson, by the members of the EHCC, as the best average Scorer, for the season 1857-8". Fine match-used condition. [Samuel Hopkinson played 8 matches for Victoria 1860-64, including 6 against visiting English teams]. {EHCC is Emerald Hill Cricket Club, which changed it's name to South Melbourne in 1883}. One of the earliest cricket bats known, with a direct relation to the sport in Australia.
